Five Star Car Rentals Terms and Conditions
The following information is essential for you to know when hiring a car with us.
Bookings
Please use the form on our website to obtain an instant online quote for your rental needs. If you choose to proceed to a booking request please note that your booking is not complete until vehicle availability is confirmed by Five Star Car Rentals.
To avoid confusion, please be aware that Five Star Car Rentals is a division of Surfers Rent A Car. The website booking pages and correspondence (emailed quotes and confirmations) may make reference to Surfers Rent A Car as well as Five Star Car Rentals.
Kilometres / Area of use
Rentals up to 7 days include 200 free kilometres per day (these are cumulative, ie a 4 day hire includes 800kms free, you could for example do 300kms in one day, as long as you do less than 8ookms in total). Excess kilometres are charged at 30 cents per kilometre where applicable. Rentals 7 days or longer have unlimited kilometres within our standard area of use (between Noosa and Byron Bay). Our cars can be taken outside these areas but arrangements must be made prior to the commencement of your hire, and additonal charges may apply.
Damage Liability
Full comprehensive insurance (cover for single and multi vehicle accidents, hail, fire, theft etc) is included in the quoted rates, subject to the terms and conditions of the Rental Agreement. The excess payable in the event of any damage is $950 for all drivers 25 – 85 years of age, $2500 for drivers between 21 and 24 years of age and $2950 for 20 year old drivers.

Security Bond
We require a credit card pre authorisation of A$500 for each rental. This amount is not debited from your account, it’s simply frozen. The funds are unfrozen and available to you within 3 – 4 days of the end of your hire (depending on individual banks).
Cancellation
We consider each cancellation request on an individual basis. As long as a valid reason is provided with more than 14 days notice, we will offer a full refund or transfer of deposit to a later booking.
If less than 14 days notice, a refund will generally be dependent on whether we can obtain a replacement booking.
Late Returns
A charge equal to 20% of the daily rate per hour will be charged for late returns. Intention of returning late must be notified to our office, otherwise insurance cover ceases.
Refunds
No refunds will be made if the vehicle is returned earlier than stated on Rental Agreement.
Fuel
Vehicles are provided to you with a full tank, they must be returned with a full tank or a refueling charge of $3 per litre will apply.
Tolls
There are several toll bridges and roads in South East Queensland that you may pass through in your rental car. All our vehicles are registered for these toll roads so you do not need to do anything when you go through a tolling point – the electronic tag will register your trip.
Any tolls you have incurred during your hire period will appear on our toll account.
After the end of your rental period, we will charge these to the credit card we have on file for you and email you a receipt. (This is a delayed process, usually within a week of the end your rental).
Vehicle Substitution
We will make every effort to supply vehicle requested at time of booking, but we reserve the right to substitute an upgrade or similar standard of vehicle at no extra cost to the hirer.
Credit Cards
We accept Visa, Mastercard and Amex. 2.6% surcharge applies to Amex. We also accept Debit cards.
