The City Botanical Gardens are home to a mixture of historic and modern plantings from both Australia and around the world; it is considered to be one of the most important non-indigenous landscapes in Queensland. The site was selected as a public garden in 1828; it has since grown to cover 20 hectares.
At different times of the year, walking tours operate twice a day lasting for approximately an hour. Take a stroll through the Bamboo Grove, Weeping Fig Avenue or along the Mangrove Boardwalk, or stop by one of the numerous ornamental ponds.
The large open grassed areas are just calling for you to pack up the family and a picnic and come and spend the day in the sunshine relaxing and kicking around a ball. The City Garden Cafe is open daily from 8am – 5pm, where you can treat yourself to high tea overlooking the lake or take your pick from their cafe menu, with buffet breakfasts available on the weekends.
The best option for parking your reliable rental car from Five Star Car Rentals is one of the many secure centers around the city. On-street parking is free on the weekends, but is always in short supply. The gardens are a short 10 minute walk from the city or from South bank.
