Christmas is just around the corner for those who celebrate it. The shops have been filled for weeks with decorations and lights galore. Santa is making his way into shopping centres to listen to the wishes of excited girls and boys. The City of Brisbane is also beginning to get into the spirit with a few events scheduled before we enter into December.
Gather in King George Square on Friday 27 November for the much-loved tradition of the lighting the Brisbane City Christmas Tree. Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, Santa and special guests to welcome the festive season by illuminating Queensland’s largest solar-powered Christmas tree. Join in the festive cheer and sing along to the Christmas carols on the night and watch a special Christmas performance. The tree will light up The City sky every night until Christmas Eve, so make sure you venture over to King George Square and enjoy the beautiful sight! An Auslan interpreter will be present this event.
From 4pm on Saturday 28 November there will be a Christmas Extravaganza in Frew Park. There will be free rides, face painting and music by the Kate Street Mob Jazz Big Band and BrizWest Concert Band. Big Hero 6 will screen at 6.45pm and viewing is free. Don’t forget to bring a chair or picnic blanket to sit on while watching the movie. The Bardon Lions Club will be holding a sausage sizzle in exchange for a gold coin donation.
On Sunday 29 November Stones Corner Christmas Market Our Stones Corner Market will be held at Logan Road, Stones Corner with 100+ stall holders. They will have the market themed just in time for Christmas, with a variety of stall holders including giftware, homeware, plants and pots, clothing, accessories, jewelry, toys, books, art, craft, specialty food, sweets and coffee. There’ll be entertainment and a visit by Santa. It is a great opportunity to knock over some of that Christmas shopping.
Wrapping up the month on Monday 30 November is the Lord Mayor’s Seniors Christmas Parties – morning concert at 9:00-11:15am and the afternoon concert at 12:00-2:15pm. This musical celebration will be accompanied by high tea. See our city’s finest musicians, dancers and performers including multiple Golden Guitar winner Michael Fix and amazing songstresses Kacey Patrick and Andrea Kirwi. Join the Evoke Dance & Theatre Company, your hilarious host and international man of mimicry, John Reid and enjoy musical direction by renowned composer/guitarist Andrew Veivers.
