Q: Do I need an Australian driver's licence to rent a car from you?

A driver’s licence from your home country is fine (A passport is also required if your licence is not in English). You need to have held a licence for a minimum of 2 years and not have had your licence suspended or cancelled within the last 3 years.

Q: I'm under 21 - can I rent a car from you?

Unfortunately, not, we are unable to hire to people under 21. Give All Age Car Rentals a call on 1300 255 243.

Q: How far can I take my hire car?

Our standard area of use is as far North as Noosa or as far South as Byron Bay.

Should you wish to venture further afield in your hire car, please let us know prior to booking as there may be additional fees.

Q: Can I pick my hire car up from the Brisbane airport?

Like most hire car companies, we are based off airport grounds. Our depot is the closest to the airport at Eagle Farm, only a few minutes’ drive. For your convenience, during normal business hours* we will pick you up when your plane lands and drop you off at no extra charge, there is a small surcharge for outside office hours.

(Normal business hours 8am – 5pm).

Q: Can I do a one-way car rental or do I need to drop it back in the same location?

Yes, you can pick your hire car up at Brisbane Airport and drop it off at our sister company Surfers Rent A Car on the Gold Coast.

Q: How much is the insurance excess on my hire car?

Five Star Car Rentals have no hidden costs, so the cost of our rental cars includes fully comprehensive insurance, including a single car or multi-vehicle accident, fire, theft, hail and tyre/windscreen damage. The excess for each age group is as below;

  • 25 to 85 years $750
  • 21 to 24 years $1950

Unlike most rental car companies, we do not charge an additional daily insurance rate, the price you see is the price you pay, saving you money and giving you peace of mind.

Q: How can I reduce the excess on the insurance?

Like most rental car companies, we don’t provide an excess reduction. Our excess is at an already low price; however, some travel insurances may cover this fee.

Q: What happens if I get a speeding fine?

All fines are the responsibility of the driver. Five Star Car Rentals will fill out a statutory declaration so any speeding fines or parking fines will be directed by the authorities to the responsible driver.

Q: What happens if my rental car breaks down?

All our hire cars are meticulously maintained, so the chance of a breakdown is very low. However, in the event of a breakdown, please call our office on 07 5575 5400 and we can assist you with any issues that might have been caused by the driver, such as; keys locked in the car, a flat battery etc….

If we are unable to assist you quickly and promptly we will call roadside assistance to you immediately.

Q: What do I do if I go through a toll?

For your convenience, all our rental cars are registered for tolls. So, should you pass through a toll you don’t need to do anything.

When you return to the office we will be able to provide you with your outstanding toll fees for you to reconcile.

Some tolls can take a little longer to register, should this happen, these tolls will be sent forward to you for payment.
