Tips for navigating Brisbane by road

  • Traffic and road rules. As a major city, Brisbane is relatively easy to get around by car. Australian’s drive on the left-hand side of the road. Unless otherwise signed, the speed limit on Brisbane’s roads is 50 km/h in built up areas and 100 km/h outside of built up areas.
  • Airport information. Brisbane is the closest capital city on the eastern side of the continent to Asia. Brisbane International Airport serves 31 airlines, 50 domestic destinations and 29 international destinations. Brisbane city is about 30 minutes by car from the airport, around 12 kilometres.  
  • Toll roads. Using toll roads can make your trip shorter and faster. All toll roads are clearly signed. Drivers can purchase a pass or pay as they go. The toll roads in Brisbane city are; the Clem Jones Tunnel (CLEM7), Go Between Bridge, Legacy Way, and AirportLink M7. Outside the city is The Gateway Motorway and in the south, the Logan Motorway. 
  • Parking in Brisbane. The key to finding great parking in Brisbane city is to plan ahead. You’ll save time and money. Many parking places allow you to book online. There are park-and-ride stations, meter parking, private parking, and early bird parking deals.   

Here’s an interesting little fact about Brisbane. If you’ve visited Montreal in Canada and thought you’ve seen a familiar looking bridge, you’re right. Brisbane’s Story Bridge has a twin. Modelled after the Jacques Cartier Bridge which itself was modelled after The Quebec Bridge.
